Synopsis :

Nomoz persuades the Dwarflings that to use weapons is to blaspheme and that Rollo must be sacrificed for the good of the Order. However Brian decides that they don't know enough about about the Order's buisness to allow Rollo to die. Azrael and Lilhy save Rollo but he betrays them and releases the soul of St. Dumas' mother, a universal solvent.

Review :

This issue provides more depth to the dogma of The Order of St. Dumas making it feel more real. Azrael continues to be the dominant personality, when performing superhuman feats on page ten he remarks that it is nothing, Lilhy notes that he is not being modest merely honest. This page provides oodles of character depth and humour, Lilhy finds his honesty annoying asking him if he was familiar with the term insuferable, Azrael of course replies yes in a deadpan manner. Barry Kitson also manages to get across the power that Azrael has, hurling Lilhy up and over a precipice with one hand. Azraels dialogue this issue is both human and sparse an interesting compromise, as he remains the strong silent type while also displaying a kinder side.

Rant :

This is the only #25 issue I have seen that doesn't conclude or begin a major storyline. Aquaman had the alien invaders story, and every 25th issue of most comics has some enhacement, in Marvels case every 25th issue had more than the normal number of enhancements, i.e. they were holographic die cut embossed issues instead of the usual gimmicks that were a penny a dozen from Marvel. We haven't seen any improvement for most 25th issues Robin 50 sucked as did Catwoman 50 basically the stories were uninventive I have to hope that Azrael #50 will be better.
