Nug and Kluber attempt to get payback for their short stint in jail and attack Jean-Paul and Lilhy. Jean-Paul leaps into action incapacitating Nug and almost killing Kluber. Brian, fearing for Jean-Paul's stability sends him to a tropical island where a Doctor Matthias Orchid practices psychology with unorthodox methods and spectacular results. As Lihly discovers her attractivness to men and an interest in designer goods Jean-Paul discovers a monster, and is transformed into a fifty foot Azrael
Review :
The art is characteristic of the Kitson Pascoe team Demitrious' colours are good and has chosen to keep the purple motif for Lihly. As for the writing Denny brings Azrael's subtext to the fore focusing attention on Azrael's psyche. Showing us that Lilhy has developed an interest in expensive things and a knowledge of her effect on men is Denny's way of prepareing the ground for her current characterisation. Taking these early appearances into account it becomes easy to see that Lilhy's character in #27 was just an evolution of this one.
Rant :
"Azrael's buns do not stomp" Funniest thing ever in Azrael. Denny is very capable of throwing curve balls at the reader. One fully expects Brian to be the source of any light relief, but here Azrael is the source of some of the humour. There's room for funny moments in this title and Azrael works well as a straight man, basically because he is so straight. The stark highlights of the cover draw in the casual observer, and it really is a good design even if you ignore the symbolism.
